Meet Our Founders
Mike and Reneé Brown are the founders of Next Level Recovery and Sober Living Properties. Over 25 years ago, Mike successfully recovered from his own addiction to alcohol. After his recovery, Mike continued to reflect on his experience. He realized how effective the affordable rural-community recovery program was in his life and without it, he felt like the course of his life would have been altered significantly. Because of this positive experience, Mike committed his career to helping others that are seeking sober living. His biggest obstacle – to find a way to help individuals that had been turned away from treatment centers because of the lack of funds.
In 2002, while serving the needs of others in recovery, Mike met Reneé. Reneé had firsthand experience of the insurmountable challenges and difficulties of supporting a close family member struggling through years of substance use. Reneé found herself looking everywhere for affordable treatment options and couldn’t find anything to meet the needs of her desperate family member. Through this process, she witnessed many other families that were financially burdened by the rising costs of treatment programs. Reneé learned that when a family supported anyone with an addiction or substance abuse problem, their funds were often times wiped out, placing their other family members in a very challenging place as they sought to find a recovery solution.
After 15 months of dating, Mike and Reneé were married in 2003. Their collaborative experiences led them to fulfill their dream of creating an affordable recovery and supportive housing program.
In 2004, Mike and Reneé founded Sober Living Properties, which became the first licensed recovery house in Utah. Sober Living Properties embraced clients coming from community programs, local treatment centers, outpatient services and those who had a desire to receive support in early recovery. Their first recovery house was created on a foundation of a strong and healing connection between its residents and the staff. This tradition continues today at each of their sober living houses. Mike has always been intimately involved and connected to the houses and the clients. As their reputation in the community grew, Sober Living Properties took on the nickname of “Mike’s House or Mike Brown House,” a moniker by which our properties are still known by today.
Our founders lead with their hearts and sound evidence-based knowledge to help people in need. Following the successful launch of Sober Living Properties, Mike and Reneé opened Next Level Recovery to offer additional treatment solutions. Their commitment to deliver the highest quality, evidence-based treatment in the western United States sets them apart as they vowed not to hire interns to administer therapies. Each of their administering clinicians has earned their master’s degrees in Psychology or Mental Health. It’s their personal stamp on ensuring quality and results.
Today, Next Level Recovery takes a practical and therapeutic approach to addiction and treatment and supports clients in an environment that promotes self-advocacy, health and wellness and independence. We acknowledge life’s challenges and support clients while they discover their strengths and talents, engage in education and employment opportunities while rebuilding relationships and work towards integration back into their communities.
Mike and Reneé are committed to making a difference in the lives of their clients and client’s families.
Discover our full continuum of care as you seek sobriety. We personally look forward to helping you today!
